Horicon Marsh is one of the great natural wonders of Wisconsin โ and it's right in our backyard.
The Friends of Horicon Marsh International Education Center created a presentation that shares the remarkable story of Horicon Marsh: how it was drained for farming in the early 1900s, how conservation advocates fought to restore it, and how it became one of the largest freshwater cattail marshes in North America.
Why It Matters to Lake Sinissippi
Horicon Marsh is part of the same Rock River watershed that feeds Lake Sinissippi. What happens upstream in the marsh affects our lake โ water quality, wildlife populations, and ecological health are all connected.
Understanding the Horicon Marsh story helps us understand why the work the LSA and LSID do matters, and how regional cooperation is essential for long-term watershed health.
